The Story of url2image.com
It all started one day when we were designing web pages on a Windows XP laptop with 1600x1200 resolution for a customer who owned a Macintosh running Internet Explorer. We needed to turn up the font size in order to see the content, while the customer wanted to control every nuance of the design and was proofreading with a different browser. After two rounds of "how does it look?" coming back "eh, not great yet", we decided to borrow a friend's Macintosh - remotely using VNC - at night - in order to check our designs before presenting them to the customer. That worked... slowly... because of the caching problems... and one night the idea slid in, "what if there were an online service..." ?
And so, url2image.com came to light.
url2image.com is for all webmasters who want to make sure their sites look good in a variety of browsers, and for all site owners who want to make sure their webmasters are delivering code that follows the standards well enough that it actually looks fantastic on the top 5 browsers.
url2image.com is for people who care about web standards, and the ability to make their site get larger and smaller (i.e. View > Text Size > Largest) without breaking the design. The report(s) give people feedback from machines they cannot afford to own.
